Curriculum
Royal Russell school is a place where children have many opportunities to develop and thrive. Learning is not limited to the classroom but can also take place on the sports field, preparing for a performance, through a community service project or in any one of the various activities that pupils regularly take part in.
With small classes taught by well qualified teachers, each supported by a qualified assistant, we recognise that every child is unique and are able to really get to know your child, to establish where their strengths and areas of development lie. We use their individual interests as starting points to the knowledge and understanding in Mathematics, Literacy, Science and the Arts that they need for their future academic success.
All children enjoy lessons in Music, Dance, Swimming, P.E., and a Modern Foreign Language by specialist teachers.
At Royal Russell we value childhood and believe in making the most of every second of our young children’s time in school. Not only do we promote the academic excellence expected of every young person here, but we continually encourage and model the social skills, manners and confidence needed to succeed in the world of opportunity that lies beyond the Junior School.
The programme is based on the English National Curriculum (ENC) and has been enriched and adapted to our context. We aim for a high standard of attainment, and many pupils will be working at a level that goes beyond the objectives of the ENC.
While core subjects such as English, Maths and Science form a central part of the curriculum, our Integrated Curriculum for pupils in Years 1-4 offers a broad range of topics including Computing, Geography, Art and Design and History. In Years 5 and 6, we move towards a more clearly defined subject orientated timetable with increasing access to subject specialist teachers in preparation for Senior School. As an international school, we place great importance on the learning of a second language (Lithuanian and Spanish) and provide opportunities for pupils to acquire a high level of fluency.
We are committed to ensuring our young pupils experience a wide range of disciplines. Everyone is required to play in a sports team, learn a musical instrument, take part in a performance and join in one of the school’s various outreach programmes. A range of other optional activities and educational trips complete the schedule.
